The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario and Its Impact on Effective Leadership
Introduction
The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) is a professional consortium of registered nurses in Ontario, Canada (RNAO membership, 2005). It is one of Ontario's oldest nursing body, and it is a professional relation, that represents practicing nurses all over the province. Ever since its inception in 1925, the body has advocated for health public policy, encourage the best in nursing practices, raised nurses' share to outlining the health-care system, and influenced policies that impact nurses and the people they cater to (RNAO membership, 2005). According to the organization itself, the mission of the RNAO is (RNAO, n.d.)
To develop knowledge-based nursing practices.
Encourage a quality environment for the nurses' work.
Promote brilliance in the professional development of nurses.
Promote health public policy to make the health standard better.
Promote the full engagement of past and future registered nurses in making health better and executing their services.
Current Workings of RNAO
The RNAO is actively involved in making a difference in the country. Even now it is involved in multiple programs that are aimed at helping the President here their voice in regards to the healthcare condition of the country so that he can take better informed decisions. Such programs include
Urgent Action Alert - Tell Prime Minister Harper That Privatizing Social Programs Is A Bad Idea!
Action Alert: Tell Prime Minister Stephen Harper and MPs that Full Public Debate is Needed Before Signing Deal that Puts Health Care at Risk and many more (http://rnao.ca/policy/action-alerts, 2013)
Why RNAO is Good for Me
On a personal note, seeking admission or membership in the RNAO is beneficial for me because first of all, it has an education funding program. In the modern world, the biggest issue which students of any disciple face is arranging enough money to pay for the college or university tuition fees (http://rnao.ca/education-funding, 2013). Becoming a member of this organization means I am free from this trouble. Secondly, the RNAO is an established organization with a proper and experienced panel of nurses in the upper echoleons of the organization, as a student I shall be able to benefit from the wide range of experience all these professionals have gained throughout their tenures' as nurses.
The RNAO is also affiliated with multiple organizations for instance Baycrest, Cambridge Memorial Hospital and many other healthcare services. On top of that, it is also providing online toolkits and even mobile apps in order to facilitate it's member nurses (http://rnao.ca/bpg/courses/nursing-and-mobile-technology, 2013). It is working hard to create a society where nurses can be trained on the go even when there is a shortage of time.
Additionally, with the help of funding from the Ontario Ministry of Longterm Healthcare the Project e-Health is being launched (http://rnao.ca/ehealth, 2013). It is aimed at facilitating the involvement of the nurses profession in the agenda of Ontario's eHealth as well as supporting the nurses in taking a role in the leadership in adapting to the information and communication ...
