According to Article II the minimum age that is required for a presidency designation is 35. The youngest president ever elected was Theodore Roosevelt who was 42 at the time of the election and the oldest being 69 was Ronald Regan. Another requirement for the position of presidency is that the candidate should have a natural citizenship. The former or the legal criteria constitutes the individual to be secured, maturity, experience as well as be loyal to USA. There is no restriction of race, religion as well as gender. Getting elected: the Electoral College
Besides the qualification aspect there are other factors and procedures that are used to get an individual elected. The framers detested the idea of president being elected by the people so it became the responsibility of the representative selectors to vote for one which was later termed as the Electoral College.
The voters cast ballots on the day of the election for the electors .The electors then cast their votes in the month of December and then eventually select the candidate for the presidential seat. Voters that are present in the larger states prefer direct election. Presidential candidates spend a lot of time, money and efforts on the campaign and make promises in terms of what they can do for the country in order to secure the electoral votes. Winning in the 11 largest states is all that a candidate requires being in majority.
Other modes of elections that are suggested are district plan, the proportional plan and the direct-vote plan. In order to resort to other modes an amendment is required along with the consensus of the larger states (Gould, 2003, pp. 129).
