The Possible Selves and Stages of Reflective Judgment Theories
The Possible Selves and Stages of Reflective Judgment Theories
Introduction
The term possible selves has reintroduced by Hazel Markus. In current perspective possible selves is termed as self knowledge. They provide conceptual link between cognition and motivation. The function of possible selves leads towards incentives of future behavior (Hazel, M. 1986). Individual has well planned. They have clear goals. They know the way of attain those goals. They put their effort to achieve the level of aspiration as to fulfill tier desired goal (Michal, F. 2009). In school age children, metacognitive knowledge spread these days. Metacognitive knowledge is the understanding and connection between Determining goal, select the strategy, Use strategy, Monitor strategy & focused on unlearned material (Kail, R et.al, 2013).
Discussion
Possible selves and its integration
Traditional concept of possible selves defined as future sates concepts regarding self. In 1986, Markus & Nauris has launched the concept of possible selves in positive psychology (Kail, R et.al, 2013). The concept is between us as we want or fear to be. A possible self revolves around the concept of selves in upcoming condition. Possible selves are cognitive expression of a person target, purpose, fears and terrorization. Possible selves make a person to become self regulated learners (Kail, R et.al, 2013). New concept arrived in possible selves. Nature of possible selves is to handle a problem that occurs in life. Possible selves provide a bridge between the present state and one most wanted or hope for the state (Erikson, M.G, 2007). The other elaboration of possible selves comprises in the function of motivation. It focuses on incentive power leads to the end state that is the desired state of one self, and the negative undesired self is to be avoided. It also includes such unclear notion such as ideal selves in the sense of future self. The concept focuses on the person is today and desired to be one in the future. Although this concept of ideal selves labels life task and cater emotional value. Overall possible selves revolve around the current state of oneself and desired for future state (Erikson, M.G, 2007).
Reflective Judgment & Stages of Reflective Judgment Theories
Reflective judgment evaluates the performance by relevant information. They provide a solution. The reflective judgment model comprises of seven stages about knowledge and concepts of justification from adolescence and adulthood (King, P. et.al).
Stage 1
In stage 1, the possible seleve is the person knows and is confident what they have perceived.
Observation of Knowledge
Information can be acquired by direct observation. Information has understood to be present completely and concretely; it is not unspoken as a generalization.
Concept of Justification
Interchangeable beliefs have not been perceived. It is what has to be supposed to be true and what is true.
Stage 2
In stage 2, the possible selves are if something has to be heard it is to be true.
Observation of Knowledge
Information is not straight away available. Information can be gained through right mind via direct observation and through authority.
