The Nevada Gaming Case

Recognition of the statistical problems in the case

After reviewing the case study thoroughly, we have recognized that the company was trying to analyze the changes in the performance levels of the employees after handing over the computer systems. For this statistical problem, we have used two forms of statistical tests i.e. paired sample t-test and regression analysis to get a better insight of the performance examination of the employees after getting the computer systems.

Part 2

(a)

Descriptive statistics

Descriptive statistics is a big part of the statistic that is dedicated to analyze and represent data. This analysis is very basic. Although there is a tendency to generalize the entire population, the first conclusions reached after a descriptive analysis is a study by calculating a series of measures of central tendency, to see to what extent the data is grouped or scattered around a central value. The purpose of applying the methods of descriptive statistics is to summarize the data set and draw some basic conclusions and generalizations.

(b)

Gender (pie-chart)

The results presented in table below reveals that overall; the study includes 36 observations out of which 20 participants were male while the remaining 16 were female. The value of descriptive statistics is primarily in the fact that it gives a concise and concentrated characterization of the phenomenon.

The pie graph shows that actual gender division of the whole data set, it can be seen that 56% of the participants were male while 44% were female. Descriptive statistics deals with the initial development of measurement results (sample) without using the calculus of probability. Do not draw conclusions on the general population.

Age (Histogram)

A histogram is a graphical representation showing the frequency distribution of metric scaled features. A histogram requires the classification of data into classes that can have a constant or variable width. Table below shows the histogram for the variable “Age”, it can be seen that there is only a single respondent of age that lies in the first category. The interval 18-30 consists of 12 participants, which covers 33% of the total population, while 25% of the participants i.e. 9 come under interval 30-40 and so on.

Performance rating with the hand-held computers (Histogram)

The table below is a perfect example of normal distribution as the graph shows a bell shaped curve, which means that the data is normally distributed. It can be seen that the maximum performance measured for the respondent comes under the interval 104-114 i.e. 11 participants.

In statistics, a histogram is a graph of a variable in the form of bars, where the surface of each bar is proportional to the frequency of the values ??represented. The vertical axis represents frequency, and the horizontal axis the values ??of the variables, usually indicating the class brands, i.e., half the interval at which data are ...
