King Lear

King Lear is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. King Lear is a person who is obsessed with honor. He rules a country and admires people who honor him the most. The extent of his obsession is such that the people who honor him, he has given them a large part of the land as compared to the other people who do not honor him. His obsession does not end here. He has three daughters and at the time of his retirement, he decides to give most to the daughter who loves him the most. He disowns his youngest daughter, Cordeilla as she did not express her love for her father because she said that she does not have any words to tell how much she loves him. Hearing this, King Lear got furious and disowned her daughter.

Soon after, the King of France expressed his willingness to marry Cordeilla and it was then that King Lear thought that he had made a wrong decision of disowning her (Bevington, 2009). On the other hand, the other two daughters praise their father and express their love for him only because they know that they are being allocated a part of their father's land and that they will be able to rule them after his retirement. It is soon that King Lear realizes that his daughters do not love him truly. There are many people who use King Lear's hunger for honor and praise and get their work done because they know that he has the power and the authority to get things done for people.
