The Knife has been written by Brendan Gill in order to highlight the delicate, yet unexpected wishes of a child who has a dead mother, on the basis of which the author highlights and tailors his work around the development around this young boy and how he copes up in his life, all by himself. The concept of reflection has always been a notion of great concern and distress for a lot of people. People these days do not usually pay attention to what have they become in terms of their purpose and existence. Although when you look at yourself in the mirror to see the face, but when you take a closer look, you can identify all odds and aspects of your own soul to see. Some mystics even believe that the mirror is a window to the soul; your thinking is your soul in all its glory and malice. With the piece of the work and the picture shown to us, it is not just the physical infrastructure with a structure made of a silver-spoon like substance, but the subliminal message that lies beneath which tells a story.

Despite the transformations in education that have taken place in most countries over the past hundred years, the characteristics and functions of schools have remained remarkably unchanged. Schools are institutions whose function is to educate children and young people. They are staffed by teachers and the support staffs necessary to assist the teachers, carries out administrative tasks, or maintain the building. Typically, students attend for a limited number of hours each day, a limited number of days each week, and a limited number of weeks each year. When students are present, other family and community members have little access to the school, and when students are not present, the building may well be closed. In my viewpoint, the piece signifies a house, a system that grows on five key components and makes the world a better place for us. In my view, there are 5 pillars to your living in this world: faith, unity, respect, discipline and empathy. All these factors lead to self-development of an individual to make changes within themselves also improving the entire system of society as a whole.

Since one's reflection looks back at you, you are unable to hide the true emotions your reflection shows and puts forth. People create this wall in front of themselves either to hide their fears, fright and vulnerability. The reflection visible in the piece can and will always help you understand your faults and identify your negative traits, in order for you to improve yourself and become better human beings living in the society.
