Question 1 Discuss Mr. Webster's management style and what effect this has on the staff's motivation.

Understanding the nature of a strong leadership style is perhaps a lot easier than practically implying it. Traits of a good leader comprise of profound human qualities that are far beyond usual philosophy of authority. Some leaders tend to be very task-oriented; only concerned to get their task done. Other leaders are a lot more employee-oriented; they concern about an employee's happiness. Rests of them are a combination. In situations where a person prefers leading by enforcing firm schedules, one tends to be task-oriented. In case if employees are your primary concern and you strive to fulfil their needs, your approach is employee-oriented. None of the preference can be justified as right or wrong. Leadership styles tend to change according to different situations. Not only are skills and abilities important but also the entrepreneur will need to consider the personality and character of each leader in order to create a viable organization culture.

Talking about Mr. Weber, he is the manager for the division of rooms in “The king Hotel.” This time there is an increase in the overall budget and the overall overheads has been reduced, due to his attention on the financials and revenues there is a very drastic change in the overall business management, and the department has shown up with the best performances in past 6 months. Mr. Weber's management style was an autocratic approach, where he believes in this style of leadership as he has the faith that one of the factors of the overall success is his autocratic leadership style. This leadership style is used when leaders tell subordinates what should be done and how it should be done. They are not interested in the advice of his followers.

This leadership style is appropriate when you have all the necessary information, time-limited, and your employees are well motivated. Some people tend to think that this style of leadership involves shouting at subordinates, using demeaning language, threats and abuse of power (Safferstone, 2007, pp. 74).

The effect on the staff motivation could be very positive, or it may possibly be gone to the either way, as the authoritative method of management would not allow the subordinate to speak or give feedback on certain flow of work. In this leadership, the leaders or the upper mangers does not even appreciate their subordinates for the reason that they never have the ability to interact with the lower staff. Thus, in Mr. Weber's management style it has been obvious with few issues in the cleaning department that the staff is not at all satisfied with the flow of work.

Question 2 Investigate other styles of management and suggest which one would be the most appropriate for the housekeeping department and give your reasons.
