Deborah Rodriguez worked as a hairdresser since 1979, except for a brief time when she was a corrections officer in her hometown of Holland, Michigan(Kiviat Heidler 2007 ). It is used for direct Kabul Beauty School, the first modern beauty academy and training salon in Afghanistan, where she lived with her Afghan husband.

Soon after the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001, Deborah Rodriguez went to Afghanistan with a group offering humanitarian aid to this war-ravaged country. Surrounded by men and women whose skills, like doctors, nurses and doctors seemed more practical, higher than her own, Rodriguez, a hairdresser and mother of two from Michigan, despaired be of any real use. But she soon she was present for the friendly Afghans, and once her profession became known she eagerly sought in the West desperately needs a good haircut and Afghan women who have a long and glorious tradition of running their own beauty parlors. Thus was born the idea.

With the help of corporate and international sponsors, the Kabul Beauty School welcomed its first class in 2003. Well meaning but sometimes brazen, Rodriguez stumbled through language barriers, overstepped cultural traditions, and constantly juggled the problems of postwar nation even as she learned how to empower their students to become breadwinners for their families, learning the fundamentals of color, hairstyle, and makeup .However, in the small harbor of beauty school, the line between teacher and student quickly blurred as these vibrant women shared with Rodriguez their stories and their hearts of honeymooners who faked her virginity on her wedding night, the twelve-year-old bride sold into marriage to pay off the debts of her family , the wife of a member of the Taliban, who pursued her training despite her husband's constant beatings. Through these and other stories, Rodriguez found the strength to leave her unhealthy marriage and allow ourselves to love again, Afghan style.

With warmth and humor, Rodriguez details lushness, seemingly desolate region and reveals the magnificence behind the burqa. Kabul Beauty School is a wonderful story about the extraordinary community of women who come together and learn the art of perms, friendship and freedom.

Written from personal experience, Debbie Rodriguez in Afghanistan 2001-2006, "Kabul Beauty School" not only tells the story of Debbie, but the stories of women in Afghanistan that Debbie met during his stay in the country. Rodriguez uses an easy writing style that the reader turning the pages without realizing it. Afghanistan's history, and this woman swell of emotions from joy to despair, but, fortunately Rodriguez leaves us with hope for the future.

Rodriguez begins his story in 2001. She worked as a hairdresser in the salon of his mother. She also was in an abusive relationship. Wanting to challenge himself, Rodriguez takes the class relief and sent to Afghanistan two months after 9-11.
