ABSTRACT

This research study is an attempt to assess the influence that trade unions have on the practices of the management in an organisation. The purpose of this research study is to create an understanding of the influence that trade union has on the policies of the management in the workplace. Trade unions tend to be a major source for bringing about a social change in any organisation, but their focus remains on the core activity of the workplace. Basically, the trade unions are engaged with the management, although their actions are related to politics, lobbying and the communities at international and local both the levels. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the impact and influence that trade unions have on the practices of the human resource management, specifically. This research study has adopted a secondary research approach in order to meet the aims and objectives of the research and to answer the research questions. The unionised firms are likely to use greater number of methods for selection. This has a positive effect on all the industries that comprises of the unionised firms. Researchers have found that a single firm appears to be similar and non-union methods of selection that indicates the strength of the effects with regard to the methods of selection
