The History of Bellevue

Introduction

In this paper, we will present the discussion on the history of Bellevue in detail. The paper will first discuss the history and origin of the city in depth. It is the fifth largest city in the state of Washington and is located between Lake Washington Lake Sammamish. The city centre is the second largest after Seattle in the state. In 2008, in the magazine of Fortune Small Business, Bellevue was named as the best city to start a new business in the United States. It was placed fourth in the list of the hundred best small towns of the country. The name of the city means 'beautiful view'.

History and Growth of Bellevue

Bellevue was founded by William Meydenbauer in the year 1869, and was granted the status of city in 1953. Since 1946, the city centre was crystallized around the mall "Bellevue Square", which is now the largest in the region. In the early 1980s, the first skyscraper appeared in the centre, it is now filled with numerous offices and residential skyscrapers. The largest employers in the city centre are Microsoft and Boeing.

According to the Money magazine, the number of jobs available in Bellevue is more than its population. Before the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge opened on Lake Washington, which now connects the city to downtown Seattle, Bellevue was a rural community which was economically underdeveloped. Since the opening of the bridge, access from Seattle has gradually increased, and the population is growing rapidly (Wallace, 90).

In 1963, a second bridge, the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge was opened, which also link Bellevue to Seattle. The city has since become one of the largest in the State of Washington, with a thriving business community. The future development of the city was announced by the municipal government, due to which there is a new center of arts, three new residential towers, and the resumption of the construction of a tower dedicated to companies working in the field of technology (Tech Tower), which is now renamed as Tower 333.

At the turn of the 20th century, Bellevue was an agricultural town where people trade up to the neighborhood of Seattle, with construction of the railway line in the Northern Pacific Railway which was operated in 1904 towards distant areas. The game developer, Valve and ArenaNet are also based in Bellevue.
