The Group Dynamics

Introduction

The purpose of this study is to contrast the two perspectives, i.e. structural and individual perspective and examine the group's performance in a dynamic process, along with, exploring the potential bridges and boundaries between them. Our primary objective is to figure out the circumstances that can lead to a better understanding about the group dynamics and how they affect the performance of the group that has been observed lacking in several researches conducted on groups (Apolloni & Gargiulo, 2011). This research specifically examines the relational context highlighted by the structures of a group, in which the group process and behavior are totally surrounded, and by such a systematic exploration, the group research's field can be moved to the further level and the meaningful connection between the perspectives of structural and individual can be unearthed.

According to independent studies, the characteristics of an individual and their effect on the group performance are highlighted under the individual perspective. Efficacy, goal commitment, unique traits, demographic characteristics are the various individual-based attributes that affect the group performance. Whereas, a difference between both methodologically and philosophically to the perspective of an individual has been provided by the structural perspective. The groups' structural properties and their effects on the process of interactions in the group are elements of a structural perspective. There are several distinctive principles of structural perspective that are mostly highlightes by the approach of social network, the network member's behaviors are jointly affected by the pattern of relationships among the individuals, the analyses in the relations among all the individuals of the group and besides the internal constraints within the individuals, behaviors are understood in meaning of structural constraints.

Stages of Group Development

To carry out this study effectively, the influences of variables of two sets, i.e. structures of a group and individual attributes have been observed with the belief that different roles at different stages are played by them and are contrasted in the same dynamic settings on group performance (Cartwright, 2008). Two stages of groups were focused for working purposes, that are, the Stage 1, in which the forming, storming and norming can be prevailing and is also called the earlier stage in the group development, whereas, the Stage 2, in which adjourning and performing can be prevailing and is also called the later period of group development.

Group Interaction and Dynamic Group Process

The studying of a dynamic group process involves the viewing of course of events and drawing of a following distinction and the events that went before the evolvement of networks comprising that the events are conditioned at one point in time (Cronin & Et.al, 2011). Whereas, the process of evolution and selection comprises of group interaction, in which the members of the group slowly become acquainted to each other through interaction and communication. In the process, different positions and roles can be taken by ...
