Shahzia Sikander was born in 1969 in Lahore, Pakistan, and in 1992 received a BFA with an emphasis on traditional miniature painting from the National College of Arts in Lahore. She received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1995, then moved to Texas, where she spent two years at the Glassell School of Art in Houston with support from a Core Fellowship.
