Alignment of career models and workforce trends

Protean career model: the model does not support the premise of emerging career trends. It taken an unrealistic approach that is based upon intrinsic motivators and self-satisfaction, rather than, the requirement of emerging workforce trends, the model advocates self-management as a tool to career management and inflicts with the goal-setting approach. It does not support the paradigm of organizational success that leads to personal success but rather personal responsibility.

The organizational model: the model implies that congruence of workforce trends, as well as, the career model takes place when the environment contributes to create opportunities for individual. These opportunities lead to career development and growth that arises in terms of intrinsic, as well as, extrinsic motivators. The model is based upon choosing the occupation that provides them with right opportunities to grow in their career direction with emerging career trends (Hota & Ghosh, 2013).

The similarities and differences

Similarities

Both the models are similar in some aspects. They take a proactive approach towards individual career development. These models pertain to the idea of self-responsibility and self-guidance. They advocate rationalization. They advocate knowledge and finding out the ways to success. They are based upon the drive for success and achievement. Both models are based upon self-recognition.

Differences

Both models are different in their outlook for success. The Protean career framework is based upon knowledge of self, as well as, the responsibility is entirely self-managed panorama for internal and external locus of control. Protean model relies upon psychological success, as well as, intrinsic rewards, whereas the organizational model depends upon organizational success and career progress. Organizational model defined success with extrinsic reward, and is based upon employee loyalty towards organization, rather than, self responsibility.
