Abstract

The purpose of conducting this research study is to be able to understand the barriers preventing mass production of sustainable homes in the United Kingdom. The UN action plan for sustainable development as presented in Agenda 21enforces local communities to take measures in order to adopt sustainable homes and become socially aware regarding the local conditions. Even though the benefits of implementing sustainable homes has been acclaimed there continues to be various barriers that hinder the process of mass production of sustainable homes. SHE (Sustainable Housing in Europe) has undergone extensive research in order to identify the possible barriers preventing the implementation of sustainable homes in the UK.This study will look into the development of code for sustainable homes established and made mandatory for future building project. The government of UK considered it a major responsibility to play its role in protecting the environment hence officials introduced the code. Through this study the researcher has aimed at identifying the barriers causing a hindrance in the mass production of sustainable homes on a large scale. Another key area that this study will examine is whether the establishment of the code of sustainability is actually beneficial and what are some of the issues construction workers face while implementing the code.
