What is this fabled creature called a Sport Utility Vehicle you ask? Vehicles like the Blazer, Tracker, Yukon, Navigator, Tahoe, Range Rover, Explorer, Mountaineer, Denali, Expedition, discover, and bravada are all vehicles who carry the title of “SUV”.

Jack Hitt id defining a Sport Utility Vehicle as something of a rolling castle that gives you more flexibility to go places a compact or van cannot go. Hitt writes that in 1981 only a small amount of four-wheel-drive vehicles traveled the road. Today there are over 14 million “SUVs” and the amount of sport utility vehicles is still climbing. These are, of course, all names of games utility vehicles, the miracle that has revived Motown. Think back to the dark days of the preceding decade when the Japanese auto industry had almost interred Detroit. In 1981, only a relative handful of four-wheel-drives traveled the street, and the saying "sport utility vehicle" hadn't entered the language. Today, they number more than 14 million, and that figure is growing fast. These Big Berthas have even generated new language words. The large-scale of the large-scale, for example, can no longer fit snugly in a standard-size car port or the mean parking space.
