Introduction

As engineers are consistently busy in pushing the limits scientific exploration and invention; thus, besides the greater achievements of engineers there are certain unfortunate and terrible failures that engineering world has faced (Townsend, 2013). Although, these terrible failures helped in learning lessons but made adverse and fearsome effects on the world. There are many disasters which come under the category of engineering disasters including the great vessel's sinking, space searching rocket's explosions, nuclear reaction explosions and many more. All these disasters took place due to human error (Townsend, 2013). Engineering is such field which requires highest safety standards and attention for preventing any kind of engineering failures. These events of engineering disasters give the lesson of not consigning the events to history rather engineers must ensure that they are continuing their future engineers with tightened regulations. The engineering disaster of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is one of the greatest engineering disasters. The paper will focus on the fearsome and terrible incident of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Townsend, 2013).

Discussion

In the disastrous event of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, nearly 59,430 people evacuated from Ukraine, Pripyat in the duration of just 36 hours. This disaster has been the worst nuclear disaster of the world. The nuclear power plant of Chernobyl exploded accidentally due to human error in the year 1986. The effects of explosion were experienced in even hundreds of thousands of miles (Townsend, 2013).

In the year 1986, on 26th April, an unsuccessful reactor test turned out to be the worst nuclear disaster of the entire world. The plant had a capacity of generating the output power almost four times more than that of Huntly power station.
