Introduction

Poe is considered as the pioneer of science fiction, as well as the operator of the fairy tale and the detective novel. His work has influenced many later writers, like the followers of the genre or Ben Bova Ray Bradbury, both amusing Amontillado fans too. His work as an insightful literary critic and often outrageous earned him some dishonor, and his original findings about the story and the nature of poetry could not fail to gain influence over time. According to Poe, the highest poetic expression was poetry, and he devoted his greatest efforts to it. It is justly celebrated his long poem “The Raven” where his mastery of rhythm and sonority of verse reaches its peak.

The genius and originality of Edgar Allan Poe is perhaps best expressed in the stories, which, in his critical assessments are the second literary form, as they enable reading without interruption; therefore, the unity of effect which is impossible in the novel. Published under the title Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque although there were new collections of his stories in 1843 and 1845, most set in a gothic and sinister atmosphere, full of supernatural intervention, and in many cases foreshadow modern horror literature.

Edgar Allan Poe Romantic writer, a genius of terror and suspense, able to research into the darker motivations of his characters, write a story of revenge in his story 'The Cask of Amontillado ', in which the narrator has as fifty years ago took revenge on his friend Fortunato, for having insulted. The Italian Fortunato falls into the trap of applying his talent assessor to verify a Cask of Amontillado, shaking his pride proposing to call another. The story recounts the murder committed by a man named Montresor, who wanted revenge on Fortunato, a man who had insulted him several times and did not want to endure another insult. The assassination was planned for a long time and is performed by Montresor in the carnival; Fortunato was dressed as a clown when he meets Montresor; and he says if it helps to know if a barrel of Amontillado who is selling is real (Baraban, 2004).

Montresor leads Fortunato misled about inebriates and catacombs and given to the dampness of the catacombs of Fortunato's health apparently had a cough gets worse and worse.
