History of Hyde Park Chicago

In accordance with the Encyclopaedia of Chicago, Paul Cornell was the man who established the Hyde Park in the 1850s located near the Illinois Central Railroad south of Chicago. Paul Cornell was the cousin of Ezra Cornell, who was also the founder of Cornell University. Paul Cornell was the born in the year 1822 to a distinguished New England Family. He had moved to Chicago in the year 1847 for better pasture. Though, Cornell, who was a smart lawyer and an entrepreneur as well, became friendly with many leading citizens of the rising new town (Cranz, 28). After taking advice from his friend known as Senator Stephen Douglas, he invested in a huge piece of land located in the south of the city of Chicago. In accordance with Mrs. Jennifer B. Burton, who is a retired teacher of Chicago public schools and is also working as a volunteer with Chicago Public Library in Hyde Park mentioned all the details during her interview related to the purchase of land. Paul Cornell carried out a construction of the hotel and communicated to the all the citizens living in the city the idea of Hyde Park. This was a landmark which attracted many people and created prospects for the investment in the resort. He established good relationship with the Illinois Central Railroad that helped in getting him the transportation advantage which was crucial in connecting the business with the city. This is the reason why in the year, 1861, the Hyde Park was developed that covered a certain portion of the land.
