Abstract

The paper seeks to present detailed account about the origin and current situation of Arab Americans, which includes detailed analysis of their background and the status that they reserve in the American society. A few famous and popular Arab Americans would also be highlighted in order to focus on the contributions and efforts of this race in development of America. It has been observed that despite living in America for several generations, the Arab Americans are still granted the status of minority class, which is basically due to the number of misconceptions present against them. The Arab Americans are also misunderstood because factual and authentic information about them is not freely available to other Americans, who fall for the wrong information provided to them via unreliable sources. The aim of this paper is to provide correct and reliable information to the Americans, in order to break the myths and make their concepts regarding the fellow citizens clear. It also seeks to analyze their current situation in America, including the demographics and the time period for which they have been living there. The reasons for discrimination and its consequences would also be presented in the paper, to make the discussion more relevant and understandable for the readers. Introduction

The term Arab Americas is used to refer to any citizen of United States who has Arab ethnic, cultural or linguistic heritage. In addition, individuals with Arab identity or those who identify themselves as Arabs are also included in the same category and are regarded as Arab Americans. This implies that the Arab Americans the Arab Americans are the later generations of immigrants who arrived from the Arab world to America. In addition, decedents of people who migrated to Arab countries from other parts of the world are also included in the same category and are regarded as Arab Americans.

It is eminent to mention here that despite living in America for a couple of decades and being large in number, the Arab Americans are still not regarded as first class citizens, having the status of minority group. Most of the Arab Americans belong to the countries including Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arab, Iraq, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.
