Social network sites are more and more developing the interest of industry and academic researchers. The introduction of various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace have attracted large number of users, many of these users have integrated these websites into their everyday practices. The aim of this research paper is to analyze that individual of which age groups in United States make use of these social networking websites.
Thesis Statement
In United States, individuals who lie in the age group of 20-45 years mostly make use of social networking sites.
Age Group of Facebook Users
According to the research, Facebook is the most favorite social networking group for individuals who are above the age of 55, for those having age in between 18-34 years and 35-54 years. This clearly shows that Facebook beats out Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn. In addition, since the beginning of the year 2010 Facebook has been providing advertisers ease of advertising. Keeping these statics of Facebook use by age group in mind; we have tried to analyze that individual of which age group most commonly use this social media group. The bottom line is that the use of Facebook is still most common by the individuals having age between 13-35 years (Boyd, 2007).
Age Group of Twitter Users
The most common belief regarding Twitter is that this is only useful for young individuals. However, by analyzing the statistics in the infographics that is presented below, we can see that usage of twitter is spread out amongst large range of individuals. The main point here is that the second highest use of Twitter is by the individuals of age between 35 to 44 years, and the third highest of Twitter is by the individuals of age between 45 to 54 years. This clearly shows that 35% of the individuals who use Twitter are in between the age of 35-54 years. So, this signifies that Twitter is not only for teen age individuals (Breiger, 2004).
Age Groups of LinkedIn Users
LinkedIn is a social networking group for individuals who belong to professional fields. The main purpose of this social networking group is to allow all the registered users to maintain a contact list of individuals, with whom they have any acquaintance, In LinkedIn this list is termed as “Connections”. The LinkedIn user can invite any individual for making the connection. On the other hand, the individual to whom a contact request is sent has the right to accept that connection or not. If the inviter gets large number of these responses, the account can be closed or restricted. There are several ways of using connection list.
