The "last mile" or "last kilometer" is the last leg of delivering connectivity from a communications provider to a customer. The saying is thus often used by the telecommunications and twisted cord TV industries. The genuine expanse of this leg may be substantially more than a mile, particularly in country areas. It is typically seen as an expensive challenge because "fanning out"(Alcantara, 2001) wires and cables is a considerable physical undertaking.
