Tess of the D'Urbervilles was published in 1891 by Thomas Hardy and originally appear as a serious of story version in the British newspaper. This was the second; last novel by the author and still considered as the classic of English literature. The main focus of this novel is the issue faced by the women due to the sexual harassment and violations by men.
Tess of the D'Urbervilles is considered as one of the brilliant models of love, seduction, murder and betrayal. It gives away the narration of convection by reproving the sins of Tess, and on the other hand, very boldly covers the conclusion that she was not forgiven of what she did not do. This novel is famous for having the most attractive, situation and comparison of languages used by the author which made it worth reading (The National Association of Scholars. 2009).
The novel portrays the picture of a struggling woman to achieve a place in society. The sentence structures and comparison have been done beautifully by the author, and the suspense is maintained till the end of the novel. It is a story of an Angelino the Tess of the D Urbervilles who turns the whole situation in favor and against of some of the character of the novel.
The Setting of the Novel
The novel is based on the setting of the 19th century in Southwestern England in the county of Wessex. During the novel, the setting of the novel keeps on changing due to the passing years of Tess life. The fictional name of the place where Tess lives is Marlott in Dorset County, which is four hours drive from London (Michael 2008, 3).
The next setting of the novel is on the time of Curitiba, Brazil, where Angel Clare goes after discovering that his wife has betrayed him. Next, the setting follows to prehistoric monument of Stonehenge, north of the town of Salisbury, England, in the county of Wiltshire.

Tess - The Protagonist
Tess is a clever, perceptive, and gorgeous 16 yr old living with her impoverished family. Being a hard-working person, she helped her father in supporting the family and helps her mother in taking care of her younger siblings and children. She completed her Sixth Standard from the National School under a London teacher, and she can speak Standard English very well (Gribble 1999, 2).
The novel revolves around the life of Tess as the main character who faces sexual harassment, fatalism, and modernism throughout her life time. She struggles herself to achieve her fate in the society. Tess is seen as the goddess of the earth or as a victim doomed to sacrifice in the novel, as in the staring of the novel she participated in a celebration, in honour of Ceres. This has symbolizes Tess as a personification of the love of nature, fertility, but also operability while the pictorial description of the animals throughout the novel reinforces this association.
