Terrorism and Freedom Fighter

Frequently repeated, one man's terrorism is another man's freedom fighter is one of the sayings that cry out for philosophical and logical analysis. Proficient analysis would show that a clear thinking person should avoid this saying. First note that while freedom is an end, terror is a mean.

Therefore, to call a fighter a terrorist is to say something about his tactics, his means for achieving his ends, while to call a combatant a freedom fighter is to say nothing about his tactics or means for achieving his ends. The terms terror and terrorism are two different concepts. The term terrorist is generally used in a long-term fear and terror state. Terrorism is however, the strategy that will cause this condition.
