The Industry of Tourism and Hospitality

In the modern era, the relationship between terrorism and tourism is connected. Due to the increasing strength of the tourism industry, some of the tourist destinations are at the target of terrorists which may cause great economic and social losses. In the twenty first century the economy is being dominated by three industries: information technology, telecommunication and tourism industry. The industry of tourism and hospitality offers 10.5% of global employment. Furthermore, world tourism organization has valued that more than 100 million people across the globe will get employment opportunity in the field of hospitality. In addition, Hospitality and Tourism industry are among one of the world's largest zone, generating more than 10% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), also offering employment opportunities to masses (Goodall & Ashworth 2012, p. 1-264).

In recent years, the industry of terrorism and tourism has been negatively impacted by a range of issues consisting of economic crises, conflicts, wars, natural disasters, terrorism and social issues. The impact of these events are directly related to the security/risk concerns of the world (Cohen & Cohen 2012, p. 2177-2202).

Relationship between Tourism and Terrorism

The relationship between tourism and terrorism is undeniable in the current century due to the profit performance of the industry. The way that popular destinations become perfect vacation spots encourages terrorist groups to strike to gain social and monetary incentives (Cohen, 2012). Terrorism can damage a nation's tourism industry. Terrorism specifically influences traveller's decision making. The tourists might substitute ideal destinations based on threats in the country. The impact of terrorism is causing money collected from the industry to diminish. Reduction in tourism income might have a larger affect in nations where tourism plays a bigger role in the GDP (Rimmington et al 2012, p. 73-79).

The Impact of Terrorism on Tourism Industry

The risk of terrorism causes governments to create higher security than they already have. It isn't clear what indicators have caused countries to react to dangers of strike. The Bio watch framework, sent to identify bioterrorism strikes, has been slammed for not developing abilities that will secure the general population (Campbell et al 2012, p. 1-42).

In response, a new form of security has been created called danger based security. This form of security tries to centre assets on dangers that represent the most risk and that have the potential to happen. Building security decisions allows institutions to use assets to counter-terrorism measures. It takes into account the understanding of data collected from the most recent strike. It changes perspectives regarding assemblies and people that hold the power to change.
