Technology (TV) and how it controls the people in the Novels Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 and the people of today

Introduction

It is apparent that now the purpose of media is to become a warning signal or a source of information that tends to alert the citizens that there is something wrong that has been taking place and that it needs the attention of the country as well as a problem resolution strategy. This has only been possible due to the advent as well as the concurrent rendering process of technology. Like every entity has a darker and a brighter side so does technology. The two novels which are Fahrenheit and 1984 which is written by Ray Bradbury George Orwell respectively discuss the different sides of technology.

Fahrenheit

In this novel the writer is said to have developed a scenario whereby the current society is technologically advanced and that humans do not hold much of an importance considering the credibility and hence Bradbury states that you aren't important and that you are nothing (Bradbury, pp.163). This quotation in turn communicates the fact that humans have no value when it comes to conducting a comparison with technology and it also communicates that there will be a time when technology will replace humans and eventually render humans useless. There is a protagonist in the novel that is known as Guy Montag. He is a fireman who earns his living through extinguishing fire (Bradburry, pp.3). He comes across the Clarisse McCellan who is a lady that has obsession with technology and guy upon communication with her also realizes the fact that people who are in constant contact with technology tends to forget what emotions are. With time they lack emotions as well as have higher tendency to act in a selfish way which tends to increase with time. However, when the novel focuses on Clarisse's life it is depicted that she is not as selfish as the other people in her social group as well as the culture she belongs to (Bradbury, pp.9). It is later in the novel that Montag comes across another woman who is obsessed with her books and that she reacted violently verbally (Bradbury, pp.38). Montag did not understand the violent behavior of the women and hence steals few books just to check what would have made her react. Montag goes back home and then he shows the partially burnt books to his wife Mildred (Montag, 65). His wife reacts violently and goes on to incinerate the books. The reaction of Montag's wife shows that she belongs to the mindset that has said to be brainwashed and ...
