The Influence of Technology of in Changing the Nature of Documentary

Introduction

New technologies have enabled the audiovisual market their rapidly developing in all genres. The low cost of production and facilities combined with the final results presented leveraged the production sector, which offers productions finalized, and often captured in digital system, thereby addressing the most economic unfeasibility of producing a work in documentary. But all this development is a technological gap, apparently technocentric.

Discussion

The viewer also has changed. Now he can be called a viewer / user, because it is always willing to navigate through the technologies offered, but the documentary does not allow this performance, technologically. This situation will intensify soon, with the introduction of digital TV, which promises several innovations, among them the interactivity. What will be the possibility to interact with the documentary when it is playing in digital TV? Not yet been defined, at least in Brazil, how it will work. Although several poles investment content promoted by the Ministry of Communications in recent years, has not yet reached an encouraging result (Marcus & Stoddard, 2009; Zoellner, 2009). The same happens in other countries, where investment in research there is a longer time, and one of the reasons that prevent this development today is the technology of software and hardware. But the solution for interactive cinema, or for a new signaling pathway, may be in narrative, not just technology (Bell, 2011; Bevan, 2011). Detachment of technocentrism, where technology is enough for most innovations, it is necessary. At that moment to appreciate more capacity and human participation in the filmmaking process, performed by men since its invention in the nineteenth century (Wolfford, 2012; Sanders, 2010).

With the end result of the research, which was experimentally to be part of the doctoral research of the author, it is expected to signal the possibility of a narrative interactive cinema, expanded not only digitally, but narratively (Flinn, 2009; Flowers & Swan, 2011). Long ago the movies on VHS and Beta Max were very expensive and difficult to have. Needing this market need arose assembled business people who rent tapes. Beta Max tapes not surrendered, then virtually all the market started to sell VHS tapes. The first tapes were pirates. After awhile there was legalization (Suh, 2012; McHugh, 2012). Then the tapes came with a stamp showing it was cool. With the rise of the DVD video rental stores started renting DVDs quickly instead of VHS tapes. Now Blu-ray is entering the market and increasing the rental (Nash, 2011; Eriksson, 2012).

In the '70s, it was used to Betamax, a type of tape. Its quality was superior to the subsequent, ESR, except that the size was smaller ribbon (Warmington, Van Gorp & Grosvenor, 2011; Marcus & Stoddard, 2009). Thus, in the 80's, the VHS came to be used. It was highlighted by the ease of operation, compared to the previous. In the 90s came the DVD, who used digital ...
