Technological Development`s Positive Effects on People's Health
Introduction
Technological developments over the past three decades have rapidly affected people`s health in a positive way. Technology has increased the effectiveness and efficiency of industry of public healthcare. Technology also assists doctors in improving their knowledge and skills. This study discusses the powerful impact of technology on life, work, health and social relations. The medical technologies help in better diagnosis and treatment of diseases of people. In this way, these technologies have extremely positive impacts on adults as well as childrens` health.
Medical Technological equipments
The medical technology equipments that have been invented over the past 30 years have greatly improved the lives of human beings on earth. These devices are discussed in this section.
Radiology
Radiology is a part of medicine studies that makes use of radiological equipments for diagnosis and treatment purpose. A wide range of imaging technologies is used by radiologists such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-Ray. Radiologists study the resultant images from these technological devices to properly diagnose the disease. Ultrasound makes use of waves with extremely high frequencies to image structures of soft tissue inside the body. Ultrasound helps in diagnosing the health of a pregnant woman along with the health of the baby before birth. MRI makes use of magnetic fields of high strength to line up atomic nuclei inside body tissues (Wolbarst, 1999, p.13). They are used to detect various types of tumours such as brain tumours. X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation. X-rays help in identifying the structure of bones. CT scans make use of computing algorithms along with x-rays for body imaging. CT scans help in detection of bone trauma, haemorrhage, tumours etc.
Technology for heart attacks
Cardiovascular diseases cause around about 30% of deaths across the world. The problems related to heart diseases display no symptoms at times. People dying instantly in late hours at night or during exercising indicate the rapid prevalence of this disease. Electrocardiograph machines detect heartbeats to observe their pattern. It is a technological device that is installed in nearly all the medical institutes. Another device for detecting heartbeat pattern is called BPro. It is a device that looks like a watch. It records heart beat patterns or arterial waveforms. It records heart waves over a period of 24 hours. It can help doctors analyze the behaviour of a patient`s heart over the period of the whole day. This results in better diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
Telemedicine
Telemedicine is a method of health-care delivery. In this method, physicians examine the patients who are at a considerable distance through the use of telecommunication technology. The development of communication infrastructure due to network development and increased availability of bandwidth, and reduces cost for transmission of data are the driving forces for advancement and adoption of telemedicine. Telemedicine systems offer a wide range of clinical services along with medical education. Telemedicine eradicates the issues regarding medical care geography. Telemedicine has not only evolved as ...
