The Best Widget Company (BWC) is a small organization that manufactures a single product, widgets. The widget produced by the company is branded as 'WooWoo'. It is basically a replica of a nationally known widget which is made by a bigger company. 'WooWoo' has a very high sale because it is cheaper as compared to the competitor and readily available. Recently, the owner of the company has found out that the defect rate has increased in the products. He has analyzed that the reason for poor product quality and other delivery issues is the lack of motivation among the employees. The Best Widget Company has fifty employees in total which are placed in the sales, technology, administration, and assembly departments. He further wants to instill the concept of team building and team work in the company. The owner has planned to achieve these objectives by introducing and implementing new strategies.

Organization Motivation Plan

The owner of the Best Widget Company plans to develop an organizational motivation plan for a higher job satisfaction, low turnover, high productivity and an increased quality of work which may lead to less complains of defects. Any company that achieves these four objectives can make a rapid and sustaining growth with a dedicated workforce. The first of job satisfaction can be achieved through the PRIDE system. This procedure includes five dimensions which includes providing a positive working environment, reward and recognition for the efforts done by the employees, increasing employee engagement, developing the skills of employees, and finally evaluate the change in job satisfaction (Sharma & Choudhary, 2011).

It has been researched that high employee turnover results in excessive costs in the form of recruitment, training, lost productivity, and lost sales for the business. The owner of Best Widget Company should analyze whether the turnover happening is functional or dysfunctional. In functional turnover, poor performing employees leave the company voluntarily. When high performers started leaving the company it is known as dysfunctional turnover (Williams, 2009). The best possible way to retain employees and make turnover low is to keep them motivated. In a small company, SMART criteria can be used for this purpose. This criterion includes five factors which are specific, measureable, attainable, relevant and timely goals for the employees (Addison et al., 2009). Employees will know that what performance is required from them and what will be the reward of attaining that goal, which will keep them motivated.

In order to improve productivity, the owner should prepare plans keeping past records and realistic assumption in mind. These plans can be divided into the work required by each employee in a month or quarter which should be attainable. This will keep employee focused on achieving a target in due time.
