Teaching in Culturally Diverse Classrooms

Introduction

If we look at the world history, many different societies from all over the globe have come out which are completely diverse from each other. These societies are not only different from each other in the way they systemize themselves, but they also have cultural differences such as language, practice and rituals. Culture in basic terms can be defined as a set of norms and values that distinguish one group or society of people from the other. The culture is shared among different societies through social interaction .people exchange ideas that help understanding other traditions and ideas. The term cultural diversity basically means that variety of different people from different societies of the world, belonging to different origins; traditions and religion are working and interacting together. Cultural diversity is basically based on the concept that cultural differences of individuals should not be neglected but they should be protected and treasured because every individual of any color, race or gender contributes to the society.

According to my experience cultural diversity not only exists in workplace but also in educational institutes. As an instructor I faced several challenges while teaching students belonging to different cultures, and coming from different backgrounds. Initially I was not aware of how to train and cater students but with passage of time, I gained experience and adopted strategies to overcome my problems. I think the problems that arise due to cultural diversity should be rectifies as it not only effects the education system but the society as a whole.
