Introduction

Childhood is the best time to teach something new each day. It is a phase of life in which a person picks up most from what is taught to them. We often see people emphasize on finding the best school for their kinder garden kid for the same reason. Similarly, the education base of a child must be strong to handle vast knowledge in the coming years of life. Teaching method is the most important thing in the field of education. Teaching methods trigger certain capabilities of a child. The performance of children is directly dependent on the teaching method used, especially when it comes to teaching them a language. Learning a language which is not your mother tongue can be troublesome. However it is important to learn a widely used language for communication. English language has evolved to be the first global language connecting people from different ethnicity and region together onto one platform. That is why every school irrespective of the region must teach this language to their children. However, it is necessary to adopt such teaching methods as to build up the interest of children. This way they learn faster and perform better. It is also important to make the session interactive so that every child participate and concentrate (Ur, 1999).

The use of audio, visuals and other such aids are very helpful as they involve the sense of sight and sound. If we go to a nursery, we see those brightly colored, large charts on the wall. Those huge drawings serve as capturing source of learning for the little ones. The main idea is to activate their interest through activities so that learning becomes fun to them. We are sure no child wants to miss the fun at school with his peers. The language learning for ESL learners becomes fun when teacher incorporate entertaining activities. The children then produce better results because they get engross into “play and learn” process. The purpose of this assignment is to design activities for ESL learners of primary grades. The activities will address three key areas of English language; Speaking, writing and grammar.

Activity duration: 30 minutes

Material Required: A4 size sheets of colored paper (one for each child), crayons, color pencils and star shaped stickers. The teacher must make note asking parents to send their child with his favorite toy. The copies of the note should be distributed among children a day before. The teacher should be able to develop excitement in kids about the activity that is going to take place the next day. “Don't forget to bring your favorite toys; we'll have fun tomorrow “, “time to show your favorite toy to your friends”, such verbally communicated message will excite them and they would not want to miss ...
