Introduction

Few topics arouse as much debate as the lead, with great relevance for all organizations and their managers, regardless of size or area of expertise. The process of leadership involves a relationship of influence in a double sense, oriented primarily for the care of mutual goals, such as those of a group, an organization or society. Therefore, leadership requires cooperative efforts by all involved. Involves the ability to influence the individual or a group of people, and also how a leader performs its functions and how it is perceived by those he seeks to lead. The more the leader to adapt their leadership style to meet the needs and expectations of their followers, the greater the chances of achieving your goals personal and the organization in which it operates. The style of leadership displayed by the individual usually is related to a pattern of behavior identified by people living in a common way (Ellyson & Doerr, 2012).

Leadership can be conceptualized in various ways. For Robbins (2002), leadership corresponds to an influence process by which individuals, through their actions, facilitates development of an aggregation of individuals towards a normal objective or imparted. The qualification between pioneer and authority is paramount, however possibly confounding. The pioneer is the single and Leadership is a capacity or action that a distinct performs. The author stated that the word leader is often used to describe individuals who hold positions of formal authority in an organization, regardless of how effectively act in their positions. But the mere fact that someone is seen as formal leader in an organization does not always mean that it exercise leadership.

Small business owners looking to improve their leadership skills will find many different leadership theories espoused by the authors, psychologists, educators and entrepreneurs. However, many of these theories fall into the categories umbrella theories task-oriented and relationship-oriented. While some entrepreneurs argue that one of these theories is superior to the other, many argue that the components of both are needed to be an effective leader (Tabernero & Arana, 2009).

Task-oriented leadership theory describes a leader who is motivated to perform tasks and worried about outlining specific roles and tasks for employees.
