Symbols of Faith

Faith is, believing in something that you cannot see. It can be a belief in an object, a person, or a feeling that cannot be seen. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:1,"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the convictions of things not seen". There are two parts to faith, believing and trusting. Believing is the identifying of what a person has faith in, and trust is the acting out of that belief.

The Bible provides us with many examples of people of religious faith. One person who had great faith was Daniel. Daniel had been taken from his home as a teenager during the Babylonian captivity. Despite the idolatrous surroundings, Daniel still held to his beliefs in God. He trusted that God would always be there for him and kept God's commandments by having no other gods before him.

When he was an adult advisor for the king in Babylon, a law was passed that forbid anyone to pray to God. Since this law was against God, Daniel went against the law and prayed openly. The king's men, who hated Daniel, caught him and threw him into a lions den for breaking the new law. Even then, Daniel still trusted God to protect him, if it was God's will. Miraculously, he was not harmed by the lions and was let out by a joyful king a day later. Like Daniel, God wants people to have faith in Him throughout ones trials.

A different type of faith was shown by the Wright brothers. They had faith in the idea that man could fly. Based on scientific theories, the Wright brothers developed ideas that they believed would allow them to fly. They soon built a plane according to their plans and trusted that it would fly.
