Since policing is the basic mechanism of government in having social control, its proper administration is of very significance. Management theory tries to recognize and forecast the performance of groups and their parts. Police management denotes the managerial roles linked with running a law enforcement agency, including coordinating and directing personnel, training and identifying competent candidates, practicing crime lessening and deterrence, and checking the performance of personnel in areas for example authoritarian enforcement and their aptitude to give the citizens with access to obtainable services . A SWOT analysis helps in determining these factors.

Established in 1845, NYPD is the biggest municipal police force in the USA, with key duties in investigation and law enforcement within the 05 boroughs of the city. The mission of the NYPD is to improve the quality of life in the City by working together with the society and compliant with the constitutional rights to preserve the peace, impose the laws, provide for a safe atmosphere, and lessen terror. This paper provides a SWOT analysis of New York Police Department (NYPD).

Strengths

Science and Technology in NYPD Work: Advances in science and technology have both improved the capabilities of law enforcement officers to perform their duties and raised several challenges and controversies. Transportation provides one example of how radically these developments have altered police work. Although foot and horseback patrols still play key roles in law enforcement, the introduction of police cars has dramatically increased NYPD officers' mobility. Now helicopters and motorboats complement ever more powerful police cars equipped with video cameras, laptop computers capable of accessing information systems, and global positioning systems (GPS). In addition to transportation, other areas of major scientific and technological change include identification and crime solving, computers and communication, monitoring and surveillance, and protection and control. (Brown, 2010)

Service: Whatever their level in the police organization, effective NYPD police officers are committed to providing the best possible service to the people policed.

Unselfishness: NYPD police officers demonstrate a genuine concern for and interest in both staff and colleagues. Fundamental and significant to the process of effectively leading people is the need to be visible and to put the interests of the staff, the organization, and the public before the personal interests of the leader.

Strategic awareness: Effective NYPD police officers ground their practices upon a range of personal powers and qualities that make a real difference to their followers. This includes a range of intellectual virtues that, in combination with professional knowledge and experience, generate credibility and confidence. Effective NYPD police officers are sensitive to the wider social, cultural, political, and business environment within which the police service operates. They are able to communicate with a diverse public and with all levels of the service itself.
