Introduction

Sony Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation that is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It is a diversified business that is focused on games, electronics, financial services sector and entertainment. Sony is considered to be one of the leading manufacturers of electrical products for both the professional markets and the consumers. It is a global manufacturer of communications, video, audio and technological products. The main focus of the company is to further strengthen its electronic businesses and sustain their leadership position in the areas of digital imaging, televisions, portable audio and video equipment. In order to do so, the company has made three initiatives at corporate level. They are as:

The customer initiative focuses on viewing the company and its products and services from the perspective of the customers.

The technology initiative emphasizes on the reinforcement of the company's technologies in areas that are focused for maximum investment of the resources which includes television, digital imaging, home video equipment and Walkman.

The Genba initiative focuses on further strengthening the front end operations such as manufacturing facilities, sales offices and design locations (www.sony.co.uk).

Sony is the only company that has the ability to develop and deliver end to end solutions that are complete in the HD world to today. It delivers thrilling experience in digital entertainment through the capitalization of the synergy between its content creating capabilities, electronic businesses, computer games, mobile, and movie and music interests. It offers a wide range of consumer and broadcast products that are shifting the industry as a whole towards the HD digitization. The key driver of the company's HD business is its Blu-ray Disc.

The television market has gone through a major change in terms of moving from analog to digital and then from digital to the cathode ray tube and finally towards the flat panel. Sony raised to the challenge by launching its new range of televisions called BRAVIA in 2005. This range of televisions is slim LCD televisions with high resolution. The company has developed BRAVIA by combining its manufacturing, advanced designs and sales capabilities. This range of television holds the number one position in LCT televisions. The aim of this range of televisions is that the colors that are seen on BRAVIA cannot be seen on any other screen.
