Personality Development Theory of Culture and Feminism

Introduction

Freud perceived that the personality of an individual has three structures: The one is id, the second is said to be the ego and finally the superego. The foremost id comprises of the instincts, the accumulation of the psychic efficacy. According to Freud, the id is completely unconscious, which has no connection with reality. Secondly, the ego is called the administrative classification of personality that deal with the appeal of certainty. The ego is considered to be the administrative classification of an individual's personality due to reason that it utilizes the analysis of decision making. But the ego and id don't possess the ethics.

The personality

It is generally defined as a number of durable and unique patterns of thought and behavior that are the traits of a particular individual. A few numbers of experts believe that it happens due to the genetically determined characteristics, others declare that these are the creations which are shaped by environmental influences. One of the primitive theories of personality development was suggested by the Sigmund Freud who is the “Father of Psychiatry” (Boeree G. C., n.d.).

Freud's personality theory

The personality theory of Freud includes the standards of awareness, the source of the individual's motivation, the deposition of individuals, the structure of individuals' personality and the advancement of personality. The Sigmund Freud established a number of the most significant theories of the personality advancement. By exploring the motivation levels of the behaviors, Freud elaborated the unique levels of abstractions in the human thought and perceptions.

Cultural Psychology

Generally, both the genetic and environmental factors are responsible for the personality formation but the cultural factors and influences are the most important among all the factors. The culture is defined as a system of knowledge that includes both the procedural and declarative knowledge, which is created, circulated, and repeated among a set of interrelated citizens. The procedural knowledge is the learned series of responses to specific prompts whereas the declarative knowledge is the demonstration of norms, events, and people.

Culture is conveyed through media messages, values, languages, cultural practices and institutions, and through the representation of behavior. The sociologists have analyzed that these measures leaves considerable psychological effects on an individual (Robert. et al. 2001).

Culture and Personality

According to the Freud, a number of aspects of personality vary among the different cultural groups. For an instance Eastern and Westerns both have the diverse perceptions of self. Western culture encourages the concept of self as an independent and autonomous (Robert. et al. 2001). American children reveal themselves in indications of the values, personal characteristics, and accomplishments and they are trained to be independent for competing others and for giving the value to their independence. Comparatively, the Eastern culture supports the concept of the self as an interdependent. Eastern children depict themselves in terms of group to which they belong to. They are trained to expect from others and are hesitant about their accomplishments and always tend to fit themselves into groups due to their collective behavior ...
