Supply and Demand of Corn

Introduction

Maize, also known as corn is one of the most used cereals in the human history. The cultivation of it has been done since 10,000 years and is produced on all agriculture setting. Unlike other cereal that produces grasses for re-growth of it, corn needs to be planted each year. It was originated in the new world but is now planted in every part of the world. It is not used single product, but is used in wide array of products. Its production level is greater than the other cereals like rice, rye and wheat.

The corn is grown in warm environment it matures in the late summer. Initially there were several types of corn grown in the world but now hardly 100 types of corn are grown all over the world. Corn is a commercial crop that is found everywhere. In the present time, it is one of the most intensely modified crops ever sustained on the face of the earth. This intense genetic modification has severe criticism, this is because on one hand, it has increased productivity but on the other hand, it has diminished the reproduction of crop from same seeds. Yet due to high per acre productivity, this crop occupies the highest acres of land on the face of earth for production purposes.

It is also used in industrial purposes like in the making of starch that is used in everything from the biodegradable containers to cardboards. The corn plant is used as a feeder crop for animals with animals consuming several pounds of it on daily basis. The corn is also used in the making of ethanol and Alcohol. Thus, this showed the importance of corn now we are going to study the supply and demand of it.
