Summary of presence

This chapter is the reflection of Starratt concept of ethical leadership. There are various components of Ethical leadership discussed in this chapter. Presence is last component of Ethical leadership which empowers the leaders to act and to be with all genuine authenticity and responsibility. “Presence is basically being wide awake to all of the things and situations that are in front of you.”

It is usually considered that Human are rational beings (Taylor, 1991). We are bound in defining and expressing ourselves unless we are in a relationship with others. We are the ones who live in imagined and real presence of other people. This presence of oneself reflects either inside of him/her or what he or she wants to show of them. Therefore it is the perception game that the other person thinks of oneself. This existence of self is perpetually dialogical. It is completely dependent over the mind made about you by the other person. For making one's mind clear about your perception you need to be obvious and real in front of him for removing the mistaken perception about you. The study also explains the conditions of being present. It involves the body language and gestures of one during their interactions with others. Therefore your external presence makes a sense of your personal reflection of personality which triggers the ability of other to make a perception of you.

The Ethical Presence

Now the next significant thing to know that how presence can imply the ethical dilemma? Any presence which create physical and psychological harm and either carry any hurtful intent, is considered to be unethical presence.
