ABSTRACT
The academic development of African American students' performance in US is school paints a bleak picture as determined by their performance. Educators of today are trying to encourage and understand their students to achieve quality education. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of teacher communication on African-American student achievement. The study is based on primary research methodology and survey is conducted from students. The purpose of the study is to determine how students can achieve quality education and achievement when the teacher communication is effective. The findings of the study demonstrated that majority of the African American students were satisfied with the way their teachers cooperation and communication. There is a need to develop a proper relationship between staff and students which should be based on trust, respect, and fairness. It is well-documented how critical teacher student relationships are to a student's academic performance and school experience. One recommendation for the study is to determine the effects of racial congruence during elementary and secondary school had on their post-high school outcomes.

Background of study
The academic development of African American students' performance in US school paints a bleak picture as determined by their performance. Many scholars state that this academic difficulty led to many challenges, which were faced, by students such as social and behavioural problems (Bondy, Ross, 2008; Love, Kruger, 2005). African American students make up approximately 16% of the school population. According to Hickson (2002), many school districts have persistent under representation of low socioeconomic status. In this reference, the underrepresentation of African American students is extreme in case of African American males than females. This study provides the tragedy regarding the underachievement of African American students are considered as an important aspect of research for African Americans and the factors involved in education.
