Introduction

The law enforcement ensures the safety and security of the individuals and the society. They have to make sure that the society is free of all criminal activities so the citizens feel safe. However, there are various criminal minded individuals in the society who also influence others into doing criminal activities. Furthermore, other social and economic problems results in forcing an individual to take part in the criminal activities in order to attain some money. Once an individual gets involved in the criminal activity, it is difficult for him/her to back out. There are several individuals, mostly youth, who are involved in the criminal activities which they started through joining a criminal group. The more people join such groups, the stronger the criminal group becomes. In order to stop these criminal groups, the law enforcement has adopted several methods in order to counter them.

There are several ways in which the law enforcement counters the criminal groups. Gradually new and improved ways of combating crimes and criminal groups are adopted. From these some are successful while some are not (Johnson et al, 2010). Following are some of the successful methods in which the law enforcement counters the criminal groups:

This is the most widely used method of combating criminal activities all over the world. Through the process of surveillance, the law enforcement monitors the behaviors and activities of the individuals.
