Introduction

Definition of Terms

Politeness

Politeness is a good practice to human behaviour, best expressed in the practical application of good manners or rules of etiquette. It is a cultural phenomenon and defined what is considered polite in one culture can often be quite rude or simply strange in another. Politeness means united, smooth, shiny, includes a set of social behaviours between individuals to express the gratitude of others and to be treated as a person with feelings. Politeness is defined by a code. It remains a set of rules acquired by education. It has a dual purpose: to facilitate social relations by allowing those who use to interact respectful and balanced; demonstrate his or her education and life skills. Over the centuries, some rules of politeness are fixed while others evolved. Negative politeness means deference. There is a greater use of indirect speech elements. Positive politeness seeks to establish a positive relationship between the two parties, respecting the need for a person to please and be understood (credoreference.com).

Rational Communication

The rational communication: there is always that while transmitting data or facts are communicated some speculative considerations, reflective or intellectual given the news wire. Rationale of the Study

The rationale for this study is to focus on the speech acts within various cultures. Also, the paper includes the various politeness theories within the speech framework. The study is about the requesting and apologetic speech acts between the Arabic and English speech acts. The area is an important for the study to evaluate and analyze different forms of politeness, communication, request and apology influenced by cultural differences.

Research Aim

The aim of the research is to focus on the politeness of the speech act varying among the Arabic and English texts.

Hypothesis

Null Hypothesis: Arabic and English apology fall under the respective speech acts

Alternate Hypothesis: Arabic and English apology are not inclusive n the speech acts

Null Hypothesis: Apology is important within the language along with the proper use of words, situation, distance, strategy, etc.

Alternate Hypothesis: Apology is unimportant within the language usage and its associated factors.

Null Hypothesis: There are certain similarities and differences between Arabic and English apology which facilitates the communication.

Alternate Hypothesis: There are no differences in apology structure with the language.

Literature Review

According to Christie (2007, p. 269-294), mainly discusses the politeness theory of Brown and Levinson which is based on the bi-perspective account using the Corporate Principle for the description of utterance and social interaction. The paper also discusses the politeness theories of Lakoff (1973) and Leech (1983). Politeness is a peripheral phenomenon in as it is not directed towards the effectiveness of speech.
