ABSTRACT
The paper discusses the problems with the student portal at the Northern University of Sri Lanka and the changes that the university has made. The implementation of the NUSIS plus was a decision that had to be weighed against the benefits and hurdles. The design strategy and negative attitude of students and staff towards the student portal usage are factors that can become issue in the university's ability to accrue expected benefits from the system change. Against this the Northern University has the quality to implement the new system. the research uses a qualitative approach and unstructured data for this purpose.

Background of the study
The Northern University of Sri Lanka is located in Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Sri Lanka. AT present, the university has over 15,000 students enrolled in the academic year. The university offers many programs such as Art, Management, Medicine, and Engineering. The university has deployed an information technology system which is accessible only by students of the university. This system is intranet based in that students can access it only within the university premises. The university student portal consists of student database where the information on students is saved for the record of the university.
