Introduction

This research study will attempt to explore the strategies that are adopted by the small and medium enterprises in order to prosper and survive in the mature markets. Like large corporations, Small and Medium Enterprises also play an important role in the economy of a country. These small and medium businesses have a significant contribution to the economy. The Small and Medium Enterprises have adapted to various strategies for gaining prosperity and survival in the mature markets.

Aim and Objectives

The aim of this research is to explore the strategies that are adopted by the small and medium enterprises in order to prosper and survive in the mature markets. The aim of this research have been met by the below mentioned objectives.

To assess the strategies adopted by the SMEs to survive and prosper in the mature markets.

To evaluate the changes that has taken place over the period of time for the SMEs.

To analyze the performance of the SMEs after the adoption of the strategies.

Research Question

This research will answer the below mentioned question in order to meet the aim of the study.

In twenty first century, a system of commerce has evolved worldwide in a way that the national markets have evolved from the regional and the local networks. The environment of the modern economy is dominated by the globalization, greater competition and knowledge and information revolution that has revolutionized the businesses which have been conducted.

One of the major strategies that are adopted by the Small and Medium Enterprises is the adoption of internet (Pollard, 2003). The SMEs have adopted a number of ways in order to harness the power of internet and the other related technologies (Pian & Seo, 2003). The activities which range from the use of internet for communication with the suppliers and customers that the integration fully blows which provides a competitive advantage although offering a low cost entry at the same time in the international market place (O'Toole, 2003). Internet is a tool which offers help for addressing the issues that are important and have an effect on the Small and Medium Enterprises between the small businesses and the intermediate organizations the environment of the market has been changing rapidly (Peters, 2003), the need for accessing the current business is also changing from a number of sources, the competition is also increasing for capital and the greater requirement for tracking the legislation affects the smaller businesses and their need to stay flexible. Information technology plays a major role in the prosperity and survival of the Small and Medium Enterprises (Pflughoeft and Ramamurthy, 2003).
