Introduction

Strategic management is a concept that sheds light over the path that leads to the success with respect o management of the company. It has a long term approach towards planning and successions. It is a process in which company decides regarding several crucial issues and direct subordinates accordingly. In order to plan strategically, it is necessary to determine the competitors,, industry, market, products, and strategies to cope with difficulties in business. However, strategic management is a complicated process It is comprised of planning and implementation of a strategy (Peter and Certo, 1993).

The primary purpose of preparing the final report is to assess the strategic management process or plan of an organization that involves comprehending strategic thinking, conducting internal analysis, and identifying key strategic issues. The report also covers the process of strategic implementation that is comprised of almost 90% of strategic management process.

Organization

For the purpose of fulfilling report requirements, we have chosen the company named Harley Davidson. The company began its operations in 1981. This was the year when company purchased its business segment of motorcycles from AMF as a result of management buyout. The company began trading on public exchanges in 1986. There are two core business segments of the company Motor cycle and financial services. The motor cycle business of the company deals with manufacturing and selling heavy weight motor cycles at a wholesale price. In addition, it also provides supportive accessories and services to its clients. The company operates internationally in North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Latin America. It has established a network of independent deals to sell its products to customers (Annual Report, 2012).

The company rolled over the former product named Buell and stopped its production in 2009. The sale and delivery of the aforementioned item was finally ended in 2010. The company also successfully sold MV Agusta in 2010. The other segment of the company is referred to Harley Davidson Financial services. It is engaged in providing wholesale, retail financing and insurance related services to dealers and retailers. This segment of business is operated solely in USA and Canada.

The status of organization's direction

The GDP of USA for the year 2007 was recorded as 3.1% and 2.1% in Euro zone. The GDP was further declined in upcoming years. These challenging economic and financial conditions in USA had adverse has the probability to impact on the sales of the company. The dealers and customers of the company have contributed significantly in the double digit increase of revenues in 2012. However, the sales of the company could never be increased up to the level of the year 2008. The customers around the globe look forward to the latest and upcoming designs of the motor cycle products for the next year.
