Family is an institution made of several components playing their own respective roles. Any disturbance, lacking or disorder in any component will bring disorder in the entire system. Strategic therapist views the positive loop as the centerpiece of their model. It is obvious that, all families face many difficulties over the periods but the conversion of difficulties in problems largely rests on the response that family members posit towards it. Unspoken rules are often the criteria for behaving in most of the families (Gladding , 2010). In this situation, not only the behavior but the rules need to be changed as for the long term solution. This paper will discuss the various strategic and systematic therapies to treat the problem with Jose, who is 16 year old and is refusing to go outside home.
Discussion
In this case sixteen year old Jose has refused to go outside home. Different therapist having their own style will describe the action of this teenager in their own way. Three of the most famous strategy and systematic therapies include the MRI approach, Haley style therapy and Milan Systematic therapy (Gehart , 2010). The MRI approach first of all tends to find the positive feedback loops that are maintaining the problem at hand. Second step is determining the rules that support those interactions. The third step is finding a way to changing the rules in order to break the problem causing behavior of Jose. Difficulties tend to become chronic problems when the misguided solutions, forming a positive feedback loop, this is known as cybernetic (Piercy, Sprenkle, and Wetchler, 1996). So the MRI therapist will focus on the solutions of the parents that have been deployed that caused this loop of positive feedbacks and will then try to change the rules in order to break this problematic behavior.
A therapist with Haley style therapy will be viewing the problem in the contexts of rules around the hierarchical structure of the family. According to this therapy style the inadequate parental hierarchies are the lurking in most of the cases. Therefore, a Haley style therapist will not only look at the parents but in addition to the full family interaction. Since the family interactions may be based on dysfunctional triangle.
A Milan therapist will be more interested in asking questions that will enable the family in understanding the hidden power games within the ...
