Stigmas of Homosexuality in African American Community

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to identify the stigmas of homosexuality within the African-American community. There is a considerable advancement within the rights of African American people. Barrack Obama is a very good example of this advancement, and is considered to be a very positive message for the Black community. However, in terms of Black gays, the discrimination is considered to be double. There is always a great complexity involved within the relationship of legal and social sexualities and homosexuality. Thus, the treatment of homosexuality within the African American people is very different and it is considered to be a discriminated one. This paper discusses the stigma related to the homosexuality within the African American community. Thus, it can be considered with respect to the struggle against racism and homosexuality efforts.

Discussion

Stigma is considered to be the presentation of three main dimensions including the tribal, bodily and moral. The main functions of stigma are the reproduction of the unequal social relations. The stigma which is related to the homosexuality and homophobia is mainly helpful for giving the proper understanding that the black males are facing difficulties in the proper management of their identities. Thus, the black masculinity is considered to be a stigmatized status. This means that the identities of black gay males are being flawed on the basis of the given directions: as mortified black gay males, as black gay males and the black males. These are those faced the discrimination on the basis of civil and health related experiences. The English Professor Dwight has described the image of the black man as the defender, progenitor and the protector of the race. This image is very identical to the image which has been portrayed by Dr. Frances Cress and other related to the black nationalism. Thus, it can be considered that for being a representative race man, it is necessary for a person to be heterosexual. Thus, this is the way which has ended the identity of a black gay male. In return, the group of black gay male has come out to be a slave of masculinist in terms of the sexist, patriarchal disclosure and the western racist. Thus, on the basis of all these mentioned reasoning, it is necessary for the black male to protect them at any cost. However, the fact that the black males enjoy the sexual relationships with the same-gender more cannot be overcome by the heterosexual requirements of the black masculinity.

According to the research, the different factors like more education, more age, more status, and residing in a big city cannot become a factor in bringing the changes in gay male's attitudes. However, it can be considered that the attitudinal position cannot defend in terms of mental health having different health consequences.
