Introduction

According to the definitions set out in the various journals, a stereotype is a structured image and accepted by most people as a representative of a particular group. This image is formed from a static on generalized characteristics of the members of this community. Originally, the term referred to the impression gained from a mold constructed with lead. Over the years, its application became metaphorical and began to be used to name a set of fixed beliefs that a group has over another. This is a representation of a thought or unchanging over time, which is accepted and socially shared by most members of a group. Discussion of Stereotypes

Stereotypes can be social type (according to the social class they come from. Example: cheats), cultural (according to the customs they have, example: fascist) or race (according to ethnic group forming part, example: Jews). Anyway, stereotypes are formed by linking these three characteristics, making it very difficult to separate completely from each other. It is to note also that there are stereotypes associated with the religion, as one that defines Jews as greedy. In the artistic or literary stereotypes appear as obvious scenes or characters that abound in clichés. American movies, to cite one instance, often have different stereotypes, such as those related to people from abroad, for example: the Soviets were once villains today are Arabs and Latinos are often marginal. The most common use of the term is associated with a simplification that develops on communities or groups of people who share some characteristics.
