Stem Cell Research

Abstract

This study will help in identifying the role of “Stem Cell Research” in our society. The consequences and advantages of this research are also briefly explained in the paper. The cells which are unique and capable of providing differentication into various specialized cell types when required is known as stem cells. The research paper gives an overview and ethics of using stem cell research in dealing with various diseases.

Stem Cell Research

Introduction

The cells which are unique and capable of providing differentication into various specialized cell types when required is known as stem cells. These cells help in healing process of wounds through regeneration of the skin or muscles in body. Ripped muscles, broken bones, scratched or cut in skin and other likely issues can be healed up by stem cells present in the human body.

The specialized cells are regenerated to cover the loss. These cells are further categorized in tems of their foundations; adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. An adult stem cells also known as stomach stem cells are found within various kinds of tissues. These cells are found inactive for years until they are not enthused by any injury or disease. On ther other hand, embryonic stem cells are the resultant of four or five days old human embryo. These are further divided into many specialized cells to form different parts of human embryo (Holland, 2006).

Discussion

Ethics and Stem Cell Research

Researches are still going on to find out the best ways in identifying stem cells. However, the tests are most often based on finding the self-renewal abilities of stem cells. These tests are conducted in laboratories in controlled environment. One way of recognizing stem cells in a laboratory is by using transplanting of a single cell to find whether the cell specializes as per the requirmnent of body or not. The researchers can use microscopic tests to identify and find out the stem cells, which are healthy andundifferenticated. Further more, by examining the chromosomes can also yield the same kind of results. The extended vascular permeability to attain proteins may be a secondary step to injury of endothelial cells of uncertain cause. (Shi, 2008)

Extraction of Stem Cell

The stem cells can be taken out by from an adult tissue or by divinding zygote. Then these cells are kept in a controlled environment, which can allow the to replicte and further divide, but it limits the cells from differentiating and specializing. The replication of stem cells are futher inspected along with the collection of divided cells to identify the healthy and undifferentiated stem cells also terms as Stem cell line. These stem cell lines are futher shared and managed accordingly with other researchers.

The ethics and stem cell research have been rigorously criticized on many occasions. The use of embryos and child development processes undertaken in the light of scientific mathodology, techniques and medicinal tools are greatly disliked ...
