The steel industry is the main player in driving the economy of the entire world. The rise and development of steel industry in the country can drive that country to be the world's economic power. Along with the vehicle construction, chemical industry, electrical industry and mechanical industry, the industry of steel has been one of the major and significant industrial sectors in Europe. Many steel industries are accounting for nearly 6 percent of total industrial turnover (Brussels, 2013, p.n.d). The shares of steel industry in Spain and Italy are higher than average. Moreover, the contributions of France and Germany in steel industry are slightly below than average because of their different structure of industry. EU-27 produces approximately 200 million tones of crude steel each year and almost 400,000 people are employed in the steel industry of the EU-27. Steel has been one of the most widely used and important products in the entire globe. At present, the industry of steel is experiencing the change process (Brussels, 2013, p.n.d). Due to the continuing economic and technical developments, the use and production of electric arc furnace steel is turning to be increasingly significant.
The production of pipes in the steel industry is increasing share of worldwide steel production over the period of past 30 years. The experts and manufacturers have proposed several different processes for manufacturing pipes in steel industry (Brussels, 2013, p.n.d). The steel industry focuses of the most effective and efficient processes in order to design most reliable and appropriate pipes. The paper will highlight the factors that must be taken into account while selecting the manufacturing process of pipes in steel industry. The paper will further focus on the main principles of project management that are helping the operations managers to change the existing process for producing pipes in steel industry (Brussels, 2013, p.n.d).
Discussion
The pipes production plays a very significant and inevitable role as it is one of the major elements which contribute in the development of steel industry. As the era of easy and cheap oil is ended; thus, there is a great significance of producing effective and efficient steel pipes for gas and oil industry (Aran, 2007, Pp.8-11). According to the estimation of International Energy Agency, it is clear that almost 70 % of the remaining oil reserves are comprised of crude oil with high carbon dioxide or sulfur content which requires corrosion resistant and high quality materials. Thus, for keeping up with the demand, the steel industry is struggling to find new technologies in order to produce these heavy oil pipes and reserves (Aran, 2007, Pp.8-11). Similarly, more than 50 % of the gas fields of the entire world are highly corrosive. Hence, in these challenging and demanding environments, steel industry must focus on every obtainable technical solution in order to maintain optimal production (Aran, 2007, Pp.8-11).
