Introduction

This study intends to expound the conditions of Nigeria as being the less developed country. Nigeria is quite slow in its development process due to number of disparities in societal concerns, political instability, and economical aspects which continued to work as the plague to development of the country. Therefore, this paper attempts to highlight the social practices such as less formal education, early marriages, confinement in household, and employment opportunities for women. These aspects represent the status and the role of women in Nigeria which uphold the enormous pressures and traditions on Nigerian women to live a traditional life in order to have a place in the society that should be based on marriage and their religious views. These aspects act as the obstacle to hinder their freedom in many areas which include family and environment where women are entitled to have very few rights (Agnes and Ijeoma, 2010). The prime reason of the study to focus on the Nigerian women is because they are facing a wall of challenges to get their individual rights either inside or outside their homes.

Discussion

The gender relations are receiving a great deal of imbalance where there is an evident disparity between the roles and status of Nigerian women and men. The men of the Nigerian culture are at the superior position where they just impose restrictions over women population. Nigerian men do not allow them to enjoy a legal position and rights of being women but rather the Nigerian women are recognized as the daughter, sister, and wife and not with their identity of being a woman (Agnes and Ijeoma, 2010).
