Study Design

Stduy design of any research defines many things like sampling technique, sample size ,data collection methods and scales of measurements. The study is primary data based. Data is collected from residents of the city located at southeastern United States.

Sample Size

Fifty seven questionnaires were filled by conducting face to face interviews to the respondents. Random sampling was done and the sample size was 57 observations.

The Data Collection Method and Measurements

There are two typres of data in any research, Primary data and Secondary. The data which is collected from telephonic interviews, surveys and face to face interviews is called primary data. (Wilcox, 2012)This study was based on primary data therefore questionnaire were designed and distributed to the people. Questionnaire was based on questions related to Demographic information such as age, gender, marital status, level of education, and length of residence was gathered.

There were different scales of measurement for the variables used in this study like for the variable like Psychological well being was measured in Center for Epidemiological Study Depression (CESD) Scale Higher scores represent increased levels of depressive symptoms. Life satisfaction was measured using a scale based on the Life Satisfaction Scale Z (LSIZ) .Higher scores indicated greater life satisfaction. Resident health status measured in Five ADL items .Status of Residents was measured in Likert Scale

The next variable Residential 'perceived social support measured in Likert scale. This scale is used to measure a person attitude and its thinking (Maure et al, 1998). Respondents were also asked to mark the rating of number of times they took part in different assisted-living facilities.

Bi-variate methods

This analysis technique is used when there are only two variables. One acts as dependent and the other acts as independent. Bi-variate regression analysis and descriptive analysis techniques used to find the impact of level of depression on psychological well being. There were two variables in which one was dependent (psychological well being) and the other acted as independent.

Individual Significance of the variables (t statistics)

Statistical significane of any variable can be tested by its “t” statistics. The critical value of “t” is greater than |2|. If value is greater than this critical value the variable declares as significant and below declares as insignificant. (O'Neil). The results of “t” statistics show that in females level of depression has statistically significant relationship with psychological well being. In males there is also statistical significant relationship between level of depression and psychological well being.

Now there is other bi-variate analysis between Psychological well being and life satisfaction. “t” statistics in female show statistical significant relation between life satisfaction and psychological being while in males there is also significant relation between two variables.

Next the impact of other variable i.e. functional impairment on psychological well being shows statistically significant relation with the variable as the “t” value is greater than its critical value.

Correlation Analysis

This technique identifies the relationship between the independent variables. (O'Brien at al, 2012) There are many independent variables used in this study and the ...
